Dr. Shahid Shafi is a surgeon, with extensive experience in healthcare management. Most recently, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of a large health system with multiple hospitals, an employed physician group and hundreds of ambulatory sites. Previously, he served as the Chief Medical Officer for a statewide clinically integrated network of multiple hospitals and physician practices, CEO of a large private practice surgical group in a major metropolitan area, and Medical Director for quality and safety at a large non-profit health system. He started his non-clinical career as Medical Director for a service line at a large academic medical center. He has published over 100 research articles in peer reviewed journals. After graduating from medical school in 1988, Shahid trained in General Surgery, Trauma Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and the University of Pennsylvania. During his career, he also obtained an MPH from the Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University. In addition to his professional career, Dr. Shafi has also served in leadership roles in professional societies and as an elected City Councilman. He enjoys coaching and mentoring and has helped hundreds in the fields of medicine, business, management and leadership.
